The African Forest Elephant is the smallest elephant, and inspiration comes from the struggles endured by them. Poaching and habitat loss are the main reasons this species is now critically endangered. In the painting I have focused on the baby calf holding onto its mother’s tusk to convey the hope for a new generation of elephants, and to signify the protection needed.
