  • An evocative painting of a mother and baby elephant in the African Forest.

African Forest Elephant. A beautiful, majestic animal; I am inspired by my deeply emotional response to these creatures and their environment. Living in dense, yet continually depleting forest, counting the species is difficult, so dung-piles are analysed to assess their true numbers. The calf holding its mother’s tusk gives a heart-wrenching message about ivory. The forest hides them, while also representing the disappearance of these amazing animals as they appear to fade into the background.

A Finalist painting in the Sketch for Survival 2021 competition run by Explorers Against Extinction.
